Hike With Hope Photo Shoot

Since the early stages of HWH, The Squire Shop and April Harris have been huge supporters for the vision and cause of this movement.  This last Friday we had the opportunity to take some photos and to reach out and serve the staff of her store.  It is so important for people to understand that his mission is only possible by the support that we get from people who believe in us and the direction that HWH is heading.  We are continuing to broaden this brand and our contacts to help support our chances to reach out to the forgotten all around this world.  Throughout the next couple weeks as we lead up to this trip to Delicias, Honduras we will continue to raise awareness of who we are and who we stand for.  If you find yourself wanting to love those who know no love, or bring hope to the hopeless, or even stand for the ones out there who can’t stand on their own, then we need you and we need you now!  We are dedicated to connect like-minded people to reaching out to those who are in need.  Please leave your information if this is something you would like to hear more about, and to find out ways that you could uniquely get involved!

Here are some more pictures from Friday’s shoot

(Thanks again to Katie Cooper for her unbelievable photography work)

We need your help!

There are a lot of things that I have come across as Hike With Hope has launched that we are in dire need for.  One of those needs and a major one at that is a defined logo!  So I am going to do something crazy here and put the ball in your court.  Maybe you know someone who does art, or maybe that is you.  By the end of this week we want to have an established logo and brand for this incredible journey that we are about to embark on.  You could be asking yourself is there money involved in this, well that is the thing, if we had the money then we know established artist.  But considering this is an organization that brings light to people’s needs, we will help you bring light to your talent by sporting this brand all around the world!  It is important now for us to pour all of our support and funds into the village in Delicias, Honduras.  Here are a couple of samples that we have had sent so far:

52:7 Movement

Romans 10:14 How, then, can they call on the one they have not believed in? And how can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone preaching to them?15 And how can they preach unless they are sent? As it is written, “How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news!”

There is a function within the body of Christ that we all get to play a part in.  That it is why there is such an emphasis within the local body to understand what your spiritual gift is and not only knowing it but applying it to your life. Through these gifts God gives you an opportunity to have influence within the world.  Romans 10:14-15 really helps bring to light the importance of why we are to use these gifts.  So many people are so terrified of the Bible because of how vast the insight is within it.  But when it comes to Christ and proclaiming truth it becomes really simple.  DO IT!   This verse is really straight to the point and makes sense if you think about it, how can people call upon Christ if no one has ever told them who He is and what He has done?  And how can people tell them about Christ if they never Go?  And how will you ever know to go until you understand how God has built you and the gifts he has placed in you.  Hike with Hope is promoting the functioning cycle God has created within the wholeness of his body.  There are too many people out there that don’t know because they have never heard.  We will not waste another day and continue on without giving every person on this planet a chance to know Christ.  It begins today and it begins with you!

Isaiah 52:7 How beautiful on the mountains are the feet of those who bring good news, who proclaim peace, who bring good tidings, who proclaim salvation, who say to Zion, “Your God reigns!”

Wont you join the 52:7 movement?

What is your gift, and how can you use it to bring glory to the one true God?

A Word from Andrew

It is amazing to me that God allows me to be apart of His story. I am unbelievably unworthy to have what I have, to know what I know, and to be apart of what I am apart of. It’s exciting but also very humbling. Someone once asked me why serve on mission and try to live the gospel out with my life. I thought of some clever answer that I thought would impress him and then I flipped the question and asked him. And his answer was simple but so true….. “because God lets me”…then I felt stupid! The point is that God is so big and we are so not and the fact that he lets us be apart of what He is doing should be something that we never get over.

I am so pumped about Delicias and this mission that we get to be apart of in a few weeks. I had the opportunity to hike into this village last year around this same time and I fell in love with a group of people who need to hear the gospel and the hope we have in Jesus. As I have been preparing for the journey I have been praying for open minds and hearts, for relationships to continue to be built, for God to bring salvation to people through our sharing, and for a church to eventually be established in Delicias. Please pray for these things with us. The trip is hard, its uncomfortable, it’s filled with freeze-dried meals, no power, no running water, no clean water……..but God has a heart for these people and they will never hear the gospel unless they have a preacher, as Romans 10 shows us, and God is sending us to be their preacher. Unbelievable.

One really awesome part of this trip is the nature of the work that will happen while we are in Delcias. We make the mistake sometimes in our efforts in the church of only addressing spiritual needs and ignoring humanitarian needs, or meeting on the humanitarian needs and ignoring the persons need for Christ. During this trip we will address both. We will be packing in rice and beans to meet a physical need, but we will also be bringing the good news of Christ which leaves us never hungering and never thirsting again..John 6:35.

So please pray for us now and through October 23 when we return, I cannot express to you how much this trip hinges on our faithfulness to pray. As you go throughout your life realize what God is doing and go play the part he has for you. Play it well, be bold, be faithful, so at the end of the day you can honestly say that the light within you is shining and truly pointing others around this globe to the glory of the Lord. That is what life is all about.

A Word from Chris

Imagine – imagine a life with no power, running water, mules for suitcases and suitcases for houses. imagine a land abundant yet enslaved, a people full of smiles but no hope within. imagine a child dirty and unclothed but laughing all the while. imagine a bondage that was invisible and a mystery untold by man. imagine if they knew what we know and they lived what we so timidly attempt to live.

Now imagine you have an opportunity to change that and you’ve just placed yourself in my shoes. Why would God send a 36 yr old son, husband, father and youth pastor on a 6 hour hike to be an ambassador of Him? Grace. There is no earthly reason why I should be the one to go and speak broken spanish to these people in hopes of giving them something that was so freely given to me. But that’s grace isn’t it? Me getting something that I don’t deserve. In fact Paul spoke of this in 1 Cor. 1:26-27, “For consider your calling, brothers; not many of you were wise according to worldly standards, not many were powerful, not many were of noble birth. But God chose what is foolish in this world to shame the wise; God chose what is weak in the world to shame the strong.” So here I stand, arms high and heart abandoned in awe of the one who gave it all. I have no other response but to go, to tell, to share. I go that their smiles may have hope, a deeper meaning. I go that children, though poor, would have an inheritance man cannot fathom or create. I go that they may have a power given to them that would create a light all of Honduras may see. I go because He went. For me it all starts and ends with grace.

For the last year I’ve been thinking about this date in October. My body has been put through stress to deal with the hike. My mind has been prepared through conversation, reading and prayer. My heart has been prepared through a reminder that someone once told me of this gift of love. The motivation is not far from me, neither is conviction. It’s more than a trip and there is nothing I want to do more than go to Delicias, Honduras and hike up and down 2 mountains, sleep in a hut, go without a shower, razor or decent food, coke or snacks to tell a people group that redemption has come in the name of Jesus. Sacrifice? No, a calling, one that will cause “wise” people to share their heads. But more than that calling is my calling here, home. You can join this movement to help people in Delicias and unreached parts around this world hear the Gospel by buying a simple bracelet, that’s easy. But you can also join this movement by telling people every day, where you live, work and play that there is hope, there is redemption, there is grace, and it’s found in Jesus Christ. Join us by praying, perhaps giving, but beyond that, join us by going in the name of Jesus with your story of hope, grace and mercy. Confound the wise and walk with hope!

A Word from Kirk

I have asked the team to share with you guys a little bit about their preparation for this up coming HWH trip to Delicias, Honduras.  So here is a word from Kirk…
How have I been preparing for the adventure that awaits as our team hikes the mountains of Honduras into the town of Delicias? First and foremost prayer. Praying each day that God would break my heart for the people we will meet in Delicias Honduras while softening the hearts of those people to receive the good news we will bring by Gods grace alone. I have been pursuing His face and in turn have been learning a great deal about myself and Him. first… God has a heart for those with bad knees…and in turn He has blessed us with the elliptical! each day as I venture into the gym I do my normal weight lifting (placing extra emphasis on leg curls and extensions, and squats/leg press twice a week) followed by my elliptical training… increasing my level of performance and time every 2-3 days. I have also gone on a few warm up hikes with Andrew Owensby  and Chris Altman to blood mt in Blairsville Ga and Cheaha Al.
I have been hiking for most of my life but am not in the best “playing” shape I have been in for the past few years. Lets just say its a good thing the humble pie I have been served up while training for this trip has even fewer calories than a pastor Stephen Peeples famous frozen pies. I could afford to pass on the pie more often these days God has shown me that! but seriously I have looked forward to this trip for a year. when I heard about what this trip entailed and how the team last year hiked into this village and shared Gods love with the ppl there I knew I WANTED to go…but I remained cautious. I did not know where I would be this year and if my graduating college and going out into the “real” world would affect my being able to go. God however knew the plan the whole time and it wasn’t until months later I was let in on it. God has provided throughout this process and I know He will continue to be faithful and gracious to those willing to dream…and say yes. He shows me this everyday. He has surrounded me with a group of guys who are willing to dream big, who are passionate, and who speak the boldly proclaim the good news…I cant wait to see what God does next!

Small Things With Big Meaning

By now many of you are supporting Hike With Hope by wearing one of our Hike With Hope bungees.  There are so many things in this world that people like me design that, lets face it,  aren’t really even that cool or worth the money that you dish out, but they have the potential to change lives.  I began selling these bungees about 5 years ago to support my wife as she made a trip across this globe to Africa.  I realized then what I know now and that is you can gain support from people by connecting them to the vision of a cause, giving them some sort of ownership and part to the work you are doing, even if its worlds apart.  We raised hundreds of dollars then to reach and impact hundreds of lives, and now I am asking you to take this journey again.  What if I told you that by supporting this cause you could impact a village so defining that lives would never be the same.  I can’t tell you how the trip is going to go, what we will come across and what we will face, but I can tell you that with your support we will not leave this mountain without leaving behind a Hope of a better tomorrow.

We are looking for people to spread the word and help sale these, please contact me if you would like to support this cause!

Here are some pics you have sent showing your support, Keep them coming:

The Vision, the Beginning.

How beautiful on the mountains are the feet of those who bring good news, who proclaim peace, who bring good tidings, who proclaim salvation, who say to Zion, “Your God reigns!”

Isaiah 52:7

For sometime I have shuffled through my dreams and desire of how I can use my heart and my life to make an undeniable impact on this world for Jesus Christ.  I heard once that I should write down every thought that comes to mind and never spare an idea.  So this has been a practice of mine since I have returned from San Diego.  So many thoughts, so many ideas, so many dreams and today I will open my heart and share one with you.  Hike With Hope

Hike with Hope is a developing movement based on a vision and direction that God has been building within me for sometime now.  This movement exists to demonstrate Gods love through connecting inaccessible resources to people groups in need.

I believe there are many places and many people who are out there on the outskirts of our world who are in need of hope.  Many of these people hike for miles for things that you and I take for granted on a daily basis, like food and water.  My hope through this movement is to gather like-minded people and organizations willing to take  Hope into these places.

This movement begins in Delicias, Honduras.

More to come.
